✦ Life Jackets are Mandatory

  • Regardless of your swimming ability, a U.S. Coast Guard-approved life jacket must be worn at all times when in the water or on a board.
  • Ensure that the life jacket fits snugly and is appropriately sized for your body weight and size.

✦ Equipment Check

  • Before using any equipment, perform a visual inspection to ensure there are no visible damages or wear.
  • Report any damaged or suspect equipment to ATX Wakesurf staff immediately.

✦ Stay Hydrated

  • Lake Austin can get hot, especially in summer. Drink plenty of water to avoid dehydration.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol before or during water activities, as it can impair judgment and coordination.

✦ Know Your Limits

  • Always surf or board within your skill level. If unsure, consult with our instructors for guidance.
  • Inform our team of any medical conditions or disabilities that might affect your safety in the water.

✦ Weather Awareness

  • Check the weather forecast before heading out. Avoid water activities during thunderstorms or strong wind conditions.
  • If you notice changing weather or darkening skies while on the water, return to the shore immediately.

✦ Safe Distances

  • Maintain a safe distance from other participants, boats, or obstacles in the water.
  • When falling, try to fall flat and away from the board to reduce the risk of injury.

✦ Understand Hand Signals

  • Familiarize yourself with common hand signals used during wakeboarding and wake surfing. These signals will help communicate with the boat driver and other participants effectively.
  • If you need assistance or want to stop, signal to the boat driver immediately.

✦ Use Sun Protection

  • Apply a water-resistant sunscreen with high SPF to protect against UV rays.
  • Consider wearing UV protective clothing, hats, and sunglasses to reduce sun exposure.

✦ Respect Lake Austin's Natural Environment

  • Be mindful of local flora and fauna. Avoid disturbing wildlife or their habitats.
  • Do not dispose of any waste or trash in the lake. Keep our waters clean!

Safety is a shared responsibility. While ATX Wakesurf is committed to ensuring the safest environment for our patrons, we urge each participant to follow these guidelines diligently. Together, we can ensure that everyone has a safe, fun, and memorable time on Lake Austin!
